Acadian Ridge Trail, Mount Desert Island (Bar Harbor)

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: ~2 miles one way
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate
  • Sights: Ledge, forest, streams

This is a quiet and lovely there-and-back trail on private conservation easements that is open to the public and maintained by Friends of Acadia. You’re likely to have the place to yourself! While some of the 2-mile trail is not marked, it is easy to follow. And in some ledgy areas, there are stone cairns. The trail winds through woods, passes over streams, and across lichen-covered ledge, and at one point ascends to an open area along the ridge with views of nearby hills. (Nothing too dramatic, but it’s pleasant!)

Note: When I found notes on this trail, it was called Acadian Ridge Trail, rather than Acadia Ridge Trail. But I’m not completely confident!

Directions: There are small signs indicating the two trailheads on the side of the shoulder. One is off Acadian Woods Road, 900 feet from the intersection with Norway Drive. The other end is off Norway Drive, roughly across the street from the intersection with Bluff Road. I assume parking along the shoulders is okay — they are quiet roads — as long as your car is not blocking the roadway.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
