Talking Brook Public Land, New Gloucester and Auburn

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: ~200 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~4 miles in system
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy, with some uneven parts
  • Sights: Big Falls, small chapel

You’ll likely drive for a while on pleasant back-country roads before coming to this delightful and popular preserve. (A good stretch of Woodman Road and Durham Road are not paved.)

You start your walk by walking along the discontinued Woodman Road. If you want to head to the falls right away, go 0.3 miles along the road before taking the footpath on your right, blazed with blue triangles. This path follows Meadow Brook before coming to the small waterfall and pool in about 0.6 miles. It then turns back towards the dirt road for a 0.6 mile trek back to the trail head. Alternatively, you can branch off the dirt road and take the red-blazed trail (Norumbega Chapel Trail) to make a 1.2-mile trek through a pleasant forest back to the parking area. You also have a choice of doing a longer walk on the Stream Loop Trail and City Line Trail.

Also, be sure and check out the Norumbega Cidery!

Directions: Parking is available on the right-hand shoulder of Woodman Road, at the northern end of Woodman Road in New Gloucester.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
