Black Brook Preserve, Windham

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 105 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~2 miles of trails
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: mature trees, brooks

This seems to be one of Windham’s more popular trail systems; it is protected by the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust. The preserve is more than 100 acres, and has several trails allowing you to do varying loops. In all, there’s about 2 miles of trails. Someone has put up lovely nature signs along a couple of the trails. I recommend the Diamond Trail.

The preserve map notes a second trailhead and parking lot off Route 202. I wouldn’t recommend parking a car here, though, there’s just a grassy area next to the busy road. The primary trailhead off Windham Center Road does offer a good-sized parking lot, so I would start from here. Included in the preserve map is a snowmobile trail, which is not maintained for hikers.

Directions: From the traffic circle in Windham where Routes 302, 202 and 4 meet, follow Route 202/4 south just under one mile to the intersection with Windham Center Road. Turn left (east) onto Windham Center Road and continue another .3 miles to the gravel parking area and trailhead on the left.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
