Blue Point Preserve, Scarborough

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 14a cres
  • Trail Mileage: ~1-mile loop
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Scarborough Marsh

At one of the two scenic points of this 14-acre Scarborough Land Trust preserve, you can sit on a bench and look out over the marsh’s blue waters, set off by the light greens of marsh grass. I saw several glossy ibises during my visit. Also, at certain times of early summer, the mosquitos might bother you, so bring bug spray!

The walk is just about one mile, if you include the overlooks, and fairly easy. Along one section of the northern side of the loop, the path extends along the lip of a former gravel pit — the depression is quite deep. The southern loop follows a wide, gravel road.

Directions: The parking for the preserve is not too intuitive. Pull in behind the Blue Point Congregational Church, onto a driveway at 5 Seavey Lane. There is a small parking area next to a private home. You’ll see the trail head kiosk at the forest’s edge.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
