QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: +400 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 2 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate
  • Sights: raised peatland, gulch, cobble beach

This Maine Coast Heritage Trust walk is famous for its beauty, and its reputation is deserved. It’s an extraordinary spot. While the trail network, a bit more than two miles, isn’t that long, it’s interesting throughout. There is a raised peat bog, a cobble beach, and really beautiful views from rocky bluffs.

The trail system is well maintained and easy to navigate, with a platform for a view of Grand Manan Channel.

The land trust writes that the area’s “sphagnum-floored forests and stunted trees make for a magical look and feel. These same conditions make for a fragile environment with soil easily impacted by overuse—so be sure to stay on the trail.”

Directions: The preserve’s parking lot is off Boot Cove Road, a little under two miles from Route 191 (Dixie Road), and about 3.8 miles from South Lubec Road.
