Bowdoin Pines, Brunswick

The Bowdoin Pines preserve (white pines mostly) abuts the college campus and includes a ~0.6 mile loop on its roughly 33 acres. The forest here is an old growth forests, and in 1979 the state of Maine listed the Bowdoin Pines in its Register of Critical Areas. You can walk to the Edwards playing fields from the Pines (across the train tracks). And there are trails from the housing units around the ballfields that connect to the Bowdoin Pines.

Directions: Most people access the trails behind Bowdoin’s Development Office, on the corner of Federal and Bath Road. The turn-off to the parking lot is off of Bath Road, right before you get to the lights and intersection with Federal Street (and Harpswell Road). You’ll see two parking areas near the start of the trails, on the side of the parking area farthest from the building.
