Brownfield Bog, Brownfield

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 5,841 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~4.5 miles of tracks
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Saco River, Brownfield Bog, views

I love this walk. It is not a preserve trail system, and the wide roads through this wildlife management area attract pick-up trucks, ATVs, and snowmobiles. But it is worth visiting, at least for the birdlife. And it really is peaceful. There aren’t that many trucks! Pleasant Mountain and other hills provide the backdrop to the bog. If you walk from Bog Road to Walkers Fall Road, it’s over four miles. And there are swimming spots in the Saco River if it is a scorcher! This area is now known as Gregory Sanborn Wildlife Management Area.

Directions: If you’re coming from Brownfield on Route 160, take a left onto Lords Hill Road. Bog Road is almost immediately on your left. It is a dirt road, and you can park at the gate or continue to the small shack and turnaround. From there, walk along the road all the way to Saco River if you wish. There are some small detours.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
