Butler Preserve, Kennebunk

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 14 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 0.6 miles one way
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: river, cliffs, Picnic Rock, Kennebunk River

Butler Preserve offers a bucolic, ~0.6-mile trail that brings you to a high rocky ledge (Picnic Rock) that stands aloft over a deep part of the river. When I visited in May, two teenagers were jumping in for a cold plunge! Then the unblazed trail follows the peaceful river until it ends at a cul-de-sac on Ledgewater Drive.

Directions: Access is from Old Port Road near the corner of Rivers Edge Drive. Parking is limited; there’s about two or three spaces along the road’s shoulder. Picnic Rock is about 0.25 miles from the trailhead.
