Map shows trails in Somerset County
- Moxie Mountain — A really splendid mountain, under 3,000 feet, but a bit difficult to get to. The south trail from Heald Pond Road is about 1.6 miles to the top. There is another western trailhead closer to Deer Bog that I haven’t explored yet, but might be easier to access.
- Pleasant Pond Mountain — This lovely mountain, also under 3,000 feet, can be accessed from the east (shorter and steeper) or the west (longer, more gradual and easy.) It’s part of the Appalachian Trail.
- Pierce Pond Stream Falls and Gorge — A relatively flat 3.5-mile section of the Appalachian Trail that follows the stream, which has lovely cascading falls and a gorge. The trail connects Pierce Pond with the Kennebec River.
