China School’s Forest, China

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: 1.6 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: wildlife walk, marsh bridge, tree house, informational panels

This is a fanciful and delightful short trail system for children. People with a lot of imagination—and good building skills, as well as knowledge about forests—created many interesting spots to check out along the roughly 1.6-mile network.

The town-owned property is used frequently for education and school activities. The best time for the public to walk here is when school is not in session. You can pick up the main trail behind the primary school, on the south side of the building, where there is a kiosk at the forest edge. From this main track—a logging road—there are four short loops. (The North Loop was closed when I visited—check the official map to see where it is). Additionally, other logging tracks head off the main trail network; these are not included on the map.

Some of the most interesting or nicest spots include a bridge spanning a marsh and a tree house built around a massive tree. But there are many other surprises to discover!

Directions: You can pick up the trail next to the primary school, on its south side, or at the far end of the ball fields. Best to visit when school is not in session. There are two kiosks set up at the forest edge.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
