Coburn Park, Skowhegan

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 12.5 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~0.5 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Kennebec River, pond, open space

I think this pretty little town park could be improved if it didn’t allow cars on its winding, paved lanes. As it is, you can walk here but both you and drivers have to be careful. The speed limit is 15 miles per hour, so it’s not too dangerous, and we did see some happy walkers striding away on the bucolic lanes.

The advantage of allowing cars is that the lanes are paved, well maintained, and completely wheelchair accessible. Along the way, you can check out a lily pond, over 200 tree species, lofty views of the Kennebec River and Skowhegan Gorge, a gazebo, lots of picnic tables, and a little stage for concerts.

Directions: The park entrance is about 0.6 miles east of the intersection of Main Street and Water Street in downtown Skowhegan. There are many places to park throughout the park.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
