Denbow Bluffs, Lubec

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: 0.6 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Straight Bay

The trail at this Cobscook Shores property starts on a bucolic, easy-to-walk woods road, before it intersects at 0.2 miles with a shoreside footpath heading off to the left and to the right. If you turn right, you’ll reach a small inlet in about 0.2 miles. If you go left, the trail will end in approximately 0.2 miles at a bluff (and some adamant private property signs). From this vantage point, we saw a river otter peeking at us from the shore below. It checked us out, ducked its head, peeped back up, and then sped off underwater.

Directions: The parking area and trailhead kiosk is off Straight Bay Road, a quarter mile up the road from Huckins Beach on the left. It’s roughly six miles from the intersection with Route 189. From Route 189, turn onto Crows Neck Road. In 0.4 miles, turn right onto Lead Mine Road, and then in 0.2 miles, turn left onto Straight Bay Road. Drive 5 miles; you’ll pass signs for Morrison Cove and Huckins Beach, and then will see the trailhead and parking area for Denbow Bluffs on your left.
