Denbow Point, Lubec

Not to be confused with Denbow Bluffs, the Downeast Conservancy’s Denbow Point offers a bucolic walk through an old apple orchard and mixed forest to a rocky point where you can watch the fast-moving current squeeze through the relatively narrow channel.

The trail is easy, but has one steep section close to the trailhead. You’ll follow a path down the point for about half a mile, before it splits to form a 0.2-mile loop at the head.

Directions: The preserve is at the end of Straight Bay Road, just 0.4 miles north of Huckins Beach and 700 feet or so north of Denbow Bluffs. It’s just about six miles from the intersection with Route 189. From Route 189, turn onto Crows Neck Road. In 0.4 miles, turn right onto Lead Mine Road, and then in 0.2 miles, turn left onto Straight Bay Road. Drive 5.5 miles; you’ll pass signs for Morrison Cove and Huckins Beach, and then will see the trailhead and parking area for Denbow Bluffs on your left. When the road forks, bear right and the parking area is immediately on your left.
