Foothills Land Conservancy, Wilton

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 283 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~1.5 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: fields, Wilson pond wetlands

I am sure this Foothills Land Conservancy preserve, which includes open meadows, wetlands, and thickets of trees, is a birding paradise! I visited close to dusk, when the sun cast long shadows and lit up the silky fluff of milkweed seeds as they glided over the golden meadows. The fields lie in a valley, with small hills behind. The grassy trails were well tended when I visited; I think a sturdy wheelchair or stroller could make it through here if the ground is dry. This is a unique and enchanting spot.

Directions: From the intersection of US Route 2 and ME Route 156 in Wilton, follow ME Route 156 north 3.5 miles to Pond Road on the left. Follow Pond Road approximately 300 yards. Parking for the preserve is on the right, and the trailhead is on the left, across the street from the lot.
