Forest Hills Nature Trail, Jackman

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: N/A
  • Trail Mileage: .4 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Moose River branch, tree IDs, wheelchair accessible

We found this .4-mile trail behind Forest Hills Consolidated School to be quite charming and well maintained. You’ll see the trailhead kiosk to the left of the school, if you’re facing the school. The wide, gravel path heads off into the bush. A good number of the trees have been labeled with signs written in large font, possibly for those with feeble eyes. You can really learn your northern Maine tree species if you walk here often enough. The trail also offers a couple of nice looks at the river branch.

Directions: From Route 201, turn into the Jackman Public Library and park near the library, which will be on your left if you’re headed north out of Jackman on Route 201. It’s close to the bridge. The library is located directly in front of the school. Walk to the left side of the school and the trailhead is easy to spot.
