Frost Gully Woods, Freeport

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 13 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 0.9 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Beautiful Frost Gully Brook

This roughly 0.9-mile Freeport Conservation Trust loop walk brings you through woods next to Burr Cemetery and Route 295. But don’t let the highway proximity put you off! The easy trail takes you to the enchanting Frost Gully Brook. The trail arrives at a beautiful spot, where the brook breaks into two channels around a small island. You can step across the brook to reach the island. In high water, the water really rushes down, so be careful!

There is also a spur path, blazed with green markers, across the stream that takes you up the ridge around the deep gully. It ends before the highway. It can be very difficult to cross the stream to access the path after heavy rains.

Directions: The trailhead is at the back left corner of Burr Cemetery, off of Route 136. The cemetery is located on the right, if you’re coming from downtown Freeport, close to the intersection of Routes 125 and 136.
