Googins Woods Preserve, Hollis

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 30 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~2 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: woods, stream

I really enjoyed walking the trails in this little patch of woods, despite the fact that the trail system needed some tending. When I visited, the preserve appeared a bit neglected — which, for me, just added to its charm. At some point, people did put quite a bit effort into creating paths, blazing them, and erecting trail signs. You will also find a bench and picnic table in the middle of the preserve. It’s roughly a half mile from one end of the 30-acre preserve to the other.

Parking is a bit of an issue. There isn’t much room on the side of the road near the trailhead, but the town of Hollis says the nearby Baptist Church allows walker to park in its lot (as long as there is room).

Directions: While the trails extend out to Route 117, it’s not wise to park along this busy road. Instead, you can park at pullover next to the trailhead kiosk on Pleasant Hill Road (99 Pleasant Hill Road), or at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 100 feet or so from the trailhead.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
