Gott Pasture Preserve

Wayne, Kennebec County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 75 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~1.2-mile loop
  • Pets: no
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Sights: Wilson Pond

To reach the lovely shores of Wilson Pond, you can take one of three moderately steep trails down to the shore of Wilson Pond. There are several spots where you can swim, either from rocks or a narrow beach (which is shady in the afternoon). While there used to be pasture here, it is now a lovely oak, pine and hemlock forest. The land is protected by the Kennebec Land Trust.

If you do the full outer loop, composed of both the Shore Loop and Hemlock Woods trails, it’s roughly 1.2 miles. (The Shore Loop, itself, is 1.2 miles and the Hemlock Woods Connector is 0.40 miles.)

Note: No dogs allowed at this preserve.

Directions: From Route 133 in Wayne Village, turn south on the Old Winthrop Road (0.7 mi.); turn right on Morrison Heights Road for 1.4 miles; bear left on Hardscrabble Road for 1.3 miles; this is a well-maintained dirt road. A small parking lot for two vehicles is off Hardscrabble Road, on the left a little way past George’s Road. The lot is not plowed in the winter. If the lot is full, you can park on the side of the road — it doesn’t see that much traffic.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
