Granite Falls, North Yarmouth

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 36 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 0.2 miles one way
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Pratt's Brook, ledge waterfall

Secreted away on this 36-acre preserve is a small waterfall that flows over flat ledge, some of it covered with deep-green moss. When we visited, a nearby picnic table was hard to reach because of how much the brush around it had grown up from disuse, which somehow added to the charm of this spot. I don’t think my photos do it justice!

From the trailhead and small parking lot on Goldenrod Lane, the preserve stretches about 0.3 miles on either side of the road; both halves have rough paths crossing them. To access the waterfall, cross the street and walk 50 feet up along the road toward the neighborhood, and you’ll see a grassy path on you right. Continue down this path for about 1,000 feet, then go right on a path that dips down to the brook. According to the land trust, “Trail conditions are variable, depending on the schedule of trail mowing by neighbors.”

Directions: The parking area, with room for just two cars, is at 2 Goldenrod Lane in North Yarmouth, off North Road.
