Gravel Pit Pond, Greenville

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 15,000 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 0.3-mile loop
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Gravel Pit Pond

Part of Little Moose Public Reserved Lands, Gravel Pit Pond offers a short and easy stroll just minutes from downtown Greenville.

The pond is a gleaming, opaque aquamarine—not too appealing for human swimmers, perhaps, but irresistible to the energetic dog someone was walking here on a recent fall day. The whole scene is incredibly picturesque.

The path loops around the pond, and while there are some wet patches, it is flat and easy. Picnic tables have been set up close to the parking area by the water.

Directions: The pond is accessible via a number of roads leading out of town. The most straightforward route is to take Route 6/15 1.5 miles west from downtown Greenville. At the slightly crazy intersection with Depot Street (take care here), turn left onto Depot Street and continue 0.5 miles. Bear left onto Dyer Road and in 100 feet or so, turn right onto Pit Pond Road. The parking area is on the right in about 1,200 feet.
