Guy Van Duyn Refuge, Waldoboro
The main .4-mile trail takes you from Route 220 to the pretty shores of the Meduncook River. The Midcoast chapter of the Maine Audubon protects this spot. (I didn’t see anywhere on its site specifying that dogs are not allowed). The organization’s trail description says there are several trails at this small preserve, but I only saw one clear one that led down to the shore. Waterfowl, shorebirds, and more than 80 species of songbirds may be seen, depending upon the season.
Directions: The preserve is off Route 220, 1.6 miles south of Waldoboro, on the right if you’re coming from town.
