QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 93 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 2.75 miles in network
  • Pets: no
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: meadow, forest, salt marsh, tidal mudflats

Protected by the Maine Audubon, Hamilton Sanctuary is a particularly lovely spot close to the end of Foster Point Road, on a peninsula between the New Meadows River and Back Cove. The 2.75-mile trail network begins at an open meadow before heading into a coastal forest of spruce and pine. From the trail, you can take in views of tidal mudflats. No dogs allowed here. It’s also a good idea to check the tides if you want to look out over water! The green loop—the more distant one—brings walkers by a small pond in a small clearing, surrounded by flowers in spring.

Directions: Take the New Meadows exit off US Route 1 in West Bath. Turn left onto New Meadows Road and go straight at the four-way stop sign, across Old Bath Road. New Meadows Road turns into Foster Point Road. Follow it three miles to the sanctuary sign and parking area on the right.
