Holden Nature Trails, Holden

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: >1 mile in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: wetland, forest, school grounds

This town trail network is a fantastic resource for people who live nearby. The trails are mostly wide, flat, and easy — except for a couple of steep sections. The town says one of the trails, a 0.25-mile gravel path, is designed to be handicapped accessible. To find it, enter the school drive, turn left and go around the school to park at the beginning of the trail.

While everything is well marked and blazed, it can still be a bit confusing in the jumble of trails here. Thankfully, the place is small and it’s hard to get lost. One trail dead ends at a marsh, and at a couple of points, the trails left the preserve but continued into the woods.

The town also says there are three miles of trails here! I mapped just a bit over one mile.

Directions: The trailhead kiosk is behind the Holden Elementary School at 590 Main Road. Turn into the school drive and continue straight to the back of the school to park.
