Ipcar Natural Preserve and Ledgewood Preserve, Georgetown

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 33 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~1.6 mile between the two
  • Pets: no
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate
  • Sights: small beach, woods, paved drive, ocean views

These are two small walks I’ve put together because I think of them as post-dinner possibilities, a chance to digest your meal of fried clams and onion rings at Five Islands Lobster Co. Five Islands is a BYOB, picnic-only lobster pound that is really popular in the summer because of its water views and yummy food.

Ledgewood comes with a cute beach and white boulders, as well as a short meander down a 0.5-mile paved, wheelchair and stroller-accessible driveway that offers peeks of ocean through the tall trees. A small .1-mile walking trail to the left takes you out to big seaside boulders and views. Ipcar is a jaunt through some gorgeous mossy woods. The paths here are a bit steep in places, and rooty. If you play tennis, there’s a court at the trailhead.

Dogs are allowed at the Ipcar Preserve but not at Ledgewood.

Directions: To get to Ipcar from Route 127, use the upper parking lot in Five Islands, on the left before the wharf. At the far end is the trailhead. To find Ledgewood, turn right on Ledgemere Road off Route 127 when you’re close to Five Islands lobster pound. Park on the left at the sign before the gate (which may be open). Walk down the paved road to the stone pillars.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
