John A. Segur Wildlife Refuge, Lovell

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 598 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 2.1 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: wetlands, Sucker Brook

The Greater Lovell Land Trust protects this 598-acre preserve, where you can make a pleasant hike of about 2.1 miles (the loop is about 1.3 miles). If you’re walking clockwise, at 0.8 miles, you will come to the intersection of a 0.4 there-and-back leg to a beautiful view over Sucker Brook. Since I was last here, a trail extension to a southern brook overlook has also been added (see the land trust map below).

Additionally, west and north of the preserve is a 0.3 mile trail that brings you to another brook overlook. I found this to be a little overgrown when I walked it in September, 2016.

Directions: From Route 5, turn onto West Lovell Road. Go a little under two miles to Timber Bay Shores Road, and take a left. The second road on your right, about a mile in, will be Farrington Pond Roa. Stay right when the road forks, and the trailhead is a little ways up this road on your left. Google maps misnames the roads.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
