QUICK TRAIL FACTS
- Preserve Size: Not sure
- Trail Mileage: ~3 miles in network
- Pets: yes
- Difficulty: easy
- Sights: Fort Point
The best part of this walk is the beautiful tip around the former 1809 fort. While today it looks more like a raised berm, it sits on a wide-open, grassy point with views up and down Georges River. To get here, you can walk either 0.6 mile from Route 131, or start farther away, from Kinney Woods Road and the Town Forest Loop Trail.
The town forest and Fort Point Trail are connected by a 2-mile trail, maintained by Georges River Land Trust, that is mostly wooded and takes you past a creek and, briefly, by a marsh. The trail is closed to walkers during hunting season.
The town, land trust, and historical society have also created an accessible trail at Fort St. Georges. I will check it out soon!
Note: As of late 2022, the Jones Brook Trail, between Woods Road and Route 131, is closed until further notice by landowner request. Check here for updates.
Directions: The Kinney Woods trailhead is on Kinney Woods Road, .7 miles east of its intersection with Route 131. The Wiley’s Corner trailhead is located at the intersection of Wiley’s Corner Road and Route 131, five miles south of the intersection of Routes 1 and 131 in Thomaston.
