If you don’t mind the roar of the nearby highway, I imagine the campus of Kennebec Valley Community College might be a decent place to look for birds, since it’s basically a loop around open fields. I saw a gorgeous fox. When I visited in the winter of 2018, the trail seemed a touch neglected, although when it does enter the woods, there are a few blazes. I wasn’t sure exactly where the trail went, I used the Maine Trail Finder map and just kind of winged it. There were two old trailhead signs pointing into the field when I visited. I parked near one and headed off.

KM Trails is a great source for local trails.

Directions: The campus is off Western Ave/Route 139. Look for the trail sign on right as you enter the campus.
