McLellan-Poor Preserve, Northport
There are two parking lots bookending this Coastal Mountains Land Trust preserve. From the trailhead off Rocky Road (right where it turns into Herrick Road in Belfast), you start off in a field of lupines, if you happen to be visiting in June, before you head off into the woods to hike one or both loops in this fairly substantial preserve. If you hike both loops, you can cover about three or so easy miles. There is one stream crossing, closer to the Rocky Road trailhead, that might pose a challenge to dry socks!
If you park at the trailhead off Route 1, you can do a loop that’s under a mile on a trail that takes you relatively close to the edge of the reservoir. It’s easy to hear the traffic on Route 1 from this side of the preserve.
Directions: From Camden, take Route 1 north approximately 16 miles to Perkins Road (just over the Belfast line). Continue down Perkins Road and bear left at the intersection of Herrick and Congress. Continue down Herrick Road for approximately .6 miles. The parking lot is on the left. From Belfast via Congress Street, follow Congress Street south across Route 1. At the intersection of Herrick Road and Perkins Road, bear right on Herrick. On Herrick, continue approximately .6 miles. The parking lot is on the left.
