- Preserve Size: Not sure
- Trail Mileage: ~1 mile
- Pets: yes
- Difficulty: easy to moderate
- Sights: Morong Cove
One of the more than a dozen Cobscook Shore Waterfront Parks, Morong Cove is a small preserve where you can do a moderately easy loop that includes a lookout over Straight Bay from a cliff high above the sea. (Be careful!) The waters are calm, the quiet is extensive.
For a view from an even higher elevation, you can leave the loop and climb the short but steep leg to the screened-in pavilion to enjoy the vista bug free.
The trail ends at Coffins Neck Road. Turn right and then right again to return to the trailhead on Lyons Road.
Note: There are two preserves called Morong Cove in this area. The other is the Cobscook Bay Wildlife Management Unit.
Directions: The small parking area if on the left on Lyons Road, about a half mile from the intersection of Straight Bay Road and Lyons Road. It’s just about six miles from the intersection with Route 189. From Route 189, turn onto Crows Neck Road. In 0.4 miles, turn right onto Lead Mine Road, and then in 0.2 miles, turn left onto Straight Bay Road. Drive 2.4 miles, turn left onto Lyons Road. The preserve is a half-mile ahead on the left.
