This Morong Cove, which is part of Cobscook Bay Wildlife Management Area, is not to be confused with the Cobscook Shores Morong Cove Waterfront Park!

On a walk at this preserve in July 2019, the trails did not seem frequently visited, but they were well marked, with orange and blue tags. A few white blazes also are discernible. But keep your eye out for the trail. As it doesn’t appear to be a frequently visited preserve, the path can be quite overgrown and hard to see.

The highlight of this walk, in my eyes, is the overlook, which I’ve marked with a red icon on my map. A short detour from the trail takes you to the top of a rocky knoll, where the wind blows and you can look out over the cove. To get to the lookout, which is probably a 15-minute walk from the trailhead/parking area, head down the main trail for about 700 feet. The trail to the left is marked with a map and some orange tags. Another landmark to look for is a big white sign a few feet farther along the trail.

In the rest of the preserve, the trails meander through deciduous woods and coniferous woods with mossy carpets and a few bog bridges. I didn’t see a way to access the water or get a good look at it, but you can probably clamber down to the shore at several points from the trail.

Directions: From Route 189, turn onto Crows Neck Road. Drive 1.8 miles and turn right onto Thompson Road. The parking area and trailhead are .6 miles ahead. Keep going beyond the last driveway for another hundred yards or so, down a narrow old road, until you see the Morong Cove sign. The last hundred yards are a bit rough going.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
