Mt. Tuck Preserve, Stockton Springs

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 244 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1.8 miles one way
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate
  • Sights: Views

The 1.8-mile hike to the summit of the 565-foot Mt. Tuck is fairly easy going. At the end, you can enjoy views of Penobscot River and (I think?) Fort Point Cove from open ledge. The views appear to have been exposed from logging. The Coastal Mountains Land Trust, or some kindly neighbor, had put out two chairs here when I visited.

From the trailhead kiosk (be sure to follow the parking directions and not block access to Blanchard Lane), hikers are instructed to walk 0.7-miles down Blanchard Lane to access the summit trail, which’ll be on the right. This is not an unenjoyable task — the lane, used for logging operations, is open and light-filled and brings you alongside small meadows.

Once you reach the footpath, you’ll have a moderate 0.8-mile climb to the summit, which is covered with young forest. From this point, it’s another 0.3 miles to the view. Follow the blazes until you reach your first open ledge — you’ll see a stake and a cairn here. Continue another 100 yards or so downhill to a broader expanse of open ledge and views to the south. A sign marks the end of the trail.

Directions:
From Stockton Springs, turn north onto Route 1. In 4.1 miles, turn left onto Meadow Road. Continue 0.6 miles and park on the side of right side of the Meadow Road, or by the kiosk. Be sure to not block Blanchard Lane ahead, which is the route you’ll walk to the mountain path.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
