Oxbow’s trails, Oxford

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: 4.5 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: forest and fields

I finally got a chance to ski at Oxbow Brewing Co. since it bought the ski center from Carter’s. While the trails pass long level, pleasant terrain, they were inconsistently groomed when we visited in late January. The trail in the best conditions was the ~2.2-mile perimeter blue trail, where we saw a skate skier doing graceful laps.

The most interesting phenomenon here was the enormous crowd. The parking lot must have had about 200 cars on a sunny Sunday. Most of the skiers seemed happy to putter along on the trails for a short while and then dip in for the beer and pizza. There were also lots of cute dogs loping along the trails. Nordic skis, fat bikes, and snowshoes are available to rent on site from the nonprofit organization Portland Gear Hub.

You can check out the brewery’s website for more info.

Directions:  From the intersections of Routes 121 and 26 in Oxford, the ski center is a little more than 1,000 feet down Route 26. The address is 420 Main Street, Oxford.
