Parsons Beach, Kennebunk

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: 0.5 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Mousam River, sandy beach

The owners of this private beach lease a small portion to the town, and appear to also allow walkers on the rest of the strip (although I didn’t walk the length of the beach on the freezing cold day I visited). You can do a very short but delightful loop behind the dunes and around to the beach, which was beautiful on a blustery spring day! There are great views over the tidal Mousam River, which flows into the sea here.

The parking is very limited; just seven or so spots on the side of the road. Dogs are allowed on the private portion of the beach from Nov. 1 to March 31 only. They’re allowed on the town-leased section of the path all year, but prohibited between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm from June 15 to Sept. 15.

Directions: From Route 9 in Kennebunk, turn onto Parsons Beach Drive and park on the left side of the road. A sign marks the end of the public part of the road. Because of the limited parking, people recommend walking! or bicycling to the beach during the summer.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
