Parsons Family Preserve, Skowhegan

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 27 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 0.5 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: pollinator field

From the pullover on the street where the trailhead is, two narrow mowed trails head off in different directions through a beautiful meadow, cultivated as a pollinator habitat. Both trails continue past the edge of the field into the woods, including the protected Malbon Woods, tempting people to continue. I did, walking along unmarked old woods roads or ATV trails and successfully making a loop, which I’ve marked on my map with a thinner yellow line. The land is protected by the Somerset Woods Trustees.

Directions: The preserve is on Malbons Mills Road on the right, about 0.6 miles from the intersection of Malbons Mills Road and Route 2. There’s a little space along the roadside to pullover and park close to the preserve sign.
