Plaisted Preserve, Owls Head

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: ~17 acres
  • Trail Mileage: .8 mile loop
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Broad Cove, Rockland Harbor

A 0.8-mile looped trail “through a spruce forest and beds of moss and ferns” brings walkers to the gorgeous Broad Cove with views of the Camden Hills. The trail comes out on a bluff with a roughly made bench. While the preserve includes shore access, it’s difficult to access and people are advised to do so at their own risk. The beach is privately owned, and visitors should be mindful of the home that shares the small cove.

The parking area is small, big enough for four to five cars. The path is well made and carefully tended to by the Owls Head Conservation Commission.

Directions: The preserve is off North Shore Drive, just about .3 miles from the intersection with Main Street (which becomes Lighthouse Road, and is the road you take to get to Owls Head State Park).
