Hodson and Rheault Preserve, Camden

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 154 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1.2 miles to top of hill
  • Pets: no
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: blueberry barrens, views

Soon after starting out on this hill, you’ll cross a cool, moss-lined stream. Then you can take a left to do the 0.5-mile Hodson Loop around a grove of old sugar maples, or continue for another 0.7 miles of fairly leisurely uphill walking up the Rheault Trail to blueberry fields.

Once you are on the barrens, the summit of Howe Hill (540 feet) is another 5-10 minutes of walking along the dirt road. Since it’s all open terrain, it’s obvious where the top/end is. There are pretty views all around. You can’t bring dogs here, but you might see the owner walking his dog, according to the Coastal Mountains Land Trust. (And lo and behold, I did see the owner and his dog!) It’s also important to stay on the trail.

Directions: From the land trust: From Camden, take Washington Street/Route 105 for 2.5 miles. Turn
left onto Molyneaux Road and drive approximately 0.6 miles to the preserve parking area on the right.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
