Rock Ridge, Cumberland

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 39 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1.5-mile loop
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: woods, stream, stone walls

When we revisited this Chebeague and Cumberland Land Trust preserve in 2023, we followed a pleasant 1.5-mile loop around the Rock Ridge Run neighborhood. There’s room for about three cars in the parking lot and dog leashes to borrow (hanging on the trailhead kiosk) if you forget yours at home.

If you head out on the loop counter-clockwise, you’ll follow a stream a short distance before turning left up a steep hill. This is the only hill of the preserve! This half of the loop mostly follows wide, flat trails (with some unmarked trails heading off to right (south)). The second part of the loop, on the northern side, briefly emerges onto a power line but mostly makes its way through forest, some of it laced with old stone walls.

The path is well-marked, with white blazes, and has benches placed at three spots along the way. The path can be wet and muddy in patches, and a couple of the stream crossings were challenging.

Directions: From Tuttle Road, turn onto Harris Road and go about one mile to Rock Ridge Run on the left. Turn in and go about 1,000 feet. The trailhead and parking area is on the right.
