I first did this walk in March, during a protracted winter (2013-2014) that left the ground covered in a hard, icy crust. I slipped badly! Nonetheless, I appreciated the pretty path, which brings you down to a marsh and along a creek that empties into a small, bucolic cove where sweet water flows into salt water, as my Brazilian friends would say. The 22.5-acre preserve is protected by the Boothbay Region Land Trust. You can do about a 1-mile loop here.
Directions: From the traffic light in Boothbay Harbor, travel 0.9 mile east on Rte. 96. Turn left on Back Narrows Road and travel 2.9 miles north to the stop sign at the intersection with Pleasant Cove Road. There is a small parking area directly across from the stop sign.
