Surry Forest, Surry

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 2,114 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 9 miles of logging roads
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: harvested forest, views of Blue Hill

The Blue Hill Heritage Trust has held a road race here, a good spot for it since there is a 3-mile loop on a wide logging road that loops around the center of this large protected parcel. When I visited in the winter time, a few people had also skied here, also a good use for the land. Other than skiing and running, I am not sure I recommend this spot as a place to walk just yet, since the 9 miles of logging roads are wide and there isn’t much tree cover (the land was heavily harvested in 2016). Additionally, there is only one loop; the other trails are of the there-and-back variety.

Directions: This property is located off the Toddy Pond Road, up Chestnut Lane. The trail head and parking area are 3 miles from Surry Village on your left, or 6.3 mi from Route 1 in Orland on your right.
