Trenton Community Trail, Trenton

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 216 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1.8 miles in network, 2.4 miles total
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: dwarf shrub bog, boardwalk, interpretative panels

We snowshoed here after fresh snow, and it was beautiful. Don’t miss the .2-mile spur to the boardwalk and viewing platform, where you can gaze out at the stunted vegetation of the native dwarf shrub bog.

From the parking lot, the trail leg to the 1-mile loop is .6 miles, and the spur to the viewing platform is .1 miles. So if you do it all, the walk is 2.4 miles. It’s mostly flat, and the trail is well marked. Friends of Acadia helped protect the 216 acres here.

Directions: The trailhead shares a parking area with the Acadia Gateway Center, off Route 3, or Bar Harbor Road. From where Route 1 and Route 3 split in Ellsworth, the turn to the Center onto Gateway Center Drive is about 4.85 miles on the way to Mt. Desert Island.
