Trout Brook Preserve, Alna

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 126 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~1.8 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate
  • Sights: Trout Brook, Sheepscot River

This 126-acre preserve, protected by the Midcoast Conservancy, offers some sweet hideaways, these small nooks tucked away along the brook. The only thing is the trail doesn’t take you to these spots. You have to get off the path and crunch your way over fallen twigs and leaves to the sun-warmed rocks by the stream. Unless I missed a little spur or two? Anyway, if you can, I recommend sitting for a while by the brook to watch the flowing water.

After leaving the parking lot, you’ll walk a short trail to the railroad tracks. The trail was rerouted in 2021 to avoid the tracks altogether. After reaching the tracks and taking a left, you’ll be directed to cross the tracks before the bridge. Then you’ll walk along the other side of the tracks to reach the entrance to the trail system on your right.

Directions:From Wiscasset, take Route 218 North for 7.5 miles to the Alna Store. Continue on Rt 218 for 1/2 mile. The preserve parking lot and kiosk are located on the left just past Peaslee Road (on the right).

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
