Underwood Springs Forest, Falmouth

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 52 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1-mile loop, 1.4 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Norton Brook, mature forest, rare sedges

This is a great preserve to have in the neighborhood, and a great preserve for the students at the abutting Friends School. The two main loops on the 52-acre property are roughly 0.7 miles and 0.4 miles according to my GPS. If you do the full loop, it’s approximately 1 mile. A 0.2-mile spur trail links to Wisteria Circle.

The forest is named for underground springs that feed Norton Brook, which flows into Mill Creek and eventually into Casco Bay.

Directions: There are two designated parking spaces at the Friends School, but the best time to park there is during weekends and school holidays. The school is off Route 1; its address is 11 US-1, Cumberland Foreside.
