QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 208 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~2.5 miles in preserve network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy

On the map above, Zak Preserve is in blue; River-Link Trail is red; Schmid Preserve is green; and Dodge Point is yellow.

Zak Preserve straddles the watershed of Wildcat Creek, and the best views of this waterbody are closer to the beginning of the walk. For the remainder of this Boothbay Region Land Trust walk, you’ll head through woods, periodically coming across wetlands.

Zak Preserve has been linked to the long River-Link Trail, which connects the preserve to Schmid Preserve and Dodge Point. To walk the River-Link trail, head out on the yellow-blazed trail on Zak Preserve. The River-Link will be .8 miles farther on the left. Watch for the River-Link signs carefully as there are some intersecting old woods roads. The distance to McKay Road is another .9 miles from that point. (Then from McKay Road to Schmid Preserve it’s 1.3 miles. To Dodge Point, it’s about 5 miles.)

Directions: From Boothbay Harbor travel north on Route 27 for 5.3 miles from the traffic light. Preserve parking area is on the right.
