Alfred Elementary School Nature Trail

Alfred, York County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: ~0.6 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: outdoor classroom, nature panels

This trail has been lovingly created, with lots of informative nature panels along the way. (A few had fallen, but were still readable.) A small bridge crosses a swale. For the elementary students, there’s an outdoor classroom with benches. You can tell the path is not often walked but it’s charming.

The two little loops are blazed and were lined with downed tree boughs when I visited. They’re wide enough for a small class to walk through the woods together!

Directions: You can visit the trail Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 7 pm, and from 1 pm to 5 pm on Sundays, parking near the trailhead entrance in the school parking lot. The school’s address is 21 Sanford Road (Route 202), close to the intersection with Oak Street.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
