In about 0.6 miles, you can walk from the Casco Bay YMCA through a shady, quiet hemlock forest, and over a small hill, to reach the marshy shore of the Cousins River.
The preserve trails, a cooperative project between the Freeport Land Trust and local Y, include side paths to Lambert Road (0.3 miles) and to the Freeport Inn and Cafe. The trail is fairly easy, but has some ups and downs, including a descent to the river’s edge.
Directions: The trailhead, marked by a kiosk, is located on a knoll at the back left-hand corner of the Casco Bay YMCA parking lot on Old South Freeport Road, off Route 1. Park in the YMCA lot.
