Cross Cushing Nature Preserve, Cushing

  • Preserve Size: 31 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1.5 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Meduncook River, mossy forest

The forests in this peninsula are beautiful, with areas of soft moss-covered ground that sets off the dark red-brown bark of fir trees. When I hiked this trail in the spring of 2018, it was still relatively new, and there was no extension to the Meduncook River. I assume this is coming? Instead, I bushwhacked to a lookout over the tidal river. Even without it, the 1.2-mile loop is really pleasant and easy to follow.

Update (August, 2018): A new trail has been built! I assume it goes to the shore?

Directions: From the intersection of River Road/Cross Road, go about 3 miles to a small parking lot on the right side of Pleasant Point Road.
