Davis Bog Preserve

Morrill, Waldo County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 98 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 0.7 miles one way
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: forest, white cedar wetland

The people who live in front of Davis Bog don’t mind you walking a short path through their yard. You’ll see a small sign for the preserve and for parking off Higgins Hill Road. Walk to the backyard and then into the woods. The length of the trail is 0.7 miles, and ends at the marsh.

I love the description of this preserve as a “moss garden,” with moss, liverwort, and lichens.

Directions: The trailhead is located at 129 Higgins Hill Road, about one mile from Route 3. Park on the roadside and follow the blue paint blazes through the yard on a 1200-ft right-of-way downhill to the preserve.
