Leighton Field

Pembroke, Washington County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 25.5 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~0.7-mile loop
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Cobscook Bay, fields

Leighton Field offers about a mile of paths through a beautiful meadow that gently slopes down to Cobscook Bay. The pavilion at this Cobscook Shores park is close to the trailhead and easy to walk to, making this a great spot for a picnic. The shore is also not too far away, just about 0.3 miles from the parking area.

The walking is overall easy — along wide, mown paths — but the preserve is situated on a slight hill, making it a bit huffier to return to the trailhead than to walk away from it.

Cobscook Shores’ outdoor education program also keeps locked up bicycles here in an open shed.

Directions: The preserve is close to the end of Leighton Point. From Route 1, turn onto Old County Road. In 0.35 miles, turn right onto Leighton Point Road. Go 3.6 miles or so to the preserve on the left.
