Little Tunk Pond

Sullivan, Hancock County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 55 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 0.4 mile
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Little Tunk Pond, sandy beach

For a quiet, sandy beach on an undeveloped pond of clear, clean water tucked below a small mountain (Black Mountain), this spot can’t be beat! The walk in to the beach is along an easy 0.4-mile path that goes slightly downhill. On a hot Saturday morning when we visited, there were only about four cars parked in the lot, which is big enough for about ten vehicles.

The beach stretches about 400 feet wide and is really beautiful. The area is protected by the Frenchman Bay Conservancy.

Directions: From coastal Route 1, drive to Route 183, also called Tunk Lake Road. Drive north on Route 183 for 4.7 miles, past the Donnell Pond Public Reserve Land sign, and continue 0.25 mile.  The trailhead will be on your left.
