The drive to this 50-acre preserve, protected by Midcoast Conservancy, provides much of the pleasure of this walk. This little peninsula in Friendship is beautiful, and after you swim, you can go for a quick dip at the nearby beach off Martin Point Road. The trail includes an overlook of Crystal Pond.
Directions: From Rt. 97 in Friendship, head north on Rt. 220. In approximately half a mile take a left onto the Martin Point Road. Proceed 2.5 miles to the trailhead on the right. From Rt. 220 in Waldoboro, at the intersection of Main Street and Rt. 220, drive south approximately 9 miles then make a right turn onto the Martin Point Road. Proceed for 2 1/2 miles to the trailhead on the right. Parking is by the side of the road.
Is it a long walk to the beach, can you park closer to the beach? Is this Walker Beach?
Hi Joanne, It is a very quick walk to the beach, like 1,200 feet or so. I think you can park closer to the beach, off the road, but there isn’t much room. And I am not sure what the name of the beach is, but it’s very pretty!
